Horst Vogel

Horst Vogel (born May 11, 1931 in Theißen ) is a former major general of the Ministry for State Security (MfS) and 1st deputy head of the Enlightenment Headquarters (HV A).

Life

Horst Vogel was born in Theißen ( Zeitz district ) in 1931 as the son of a locksmith . From 1945 to 1949 he also trained as a locksmith and joined the SED in 1948 . From 1949 to 1952 he attended the workers and farmers faculty and then completed a degree until 1955. In 1955 he was employed by the MfS and attended the HV A school there until 1956. Between 1968 and 1970 he studied chemistry at the Technical University of Leuna-Merseburg . In 1970 he became deputy head, in 1971 sole head of department XIII (basic research) of HV A. In 1975 he was promoted to head of the science and technology sector and in 1983 also became deputy head of HV A. As such, he was responsible for industrial espionage at the MfS . In 1987 Vogel was appointed major general and in 1989 appointed 1st deputy head of the HV A. In the course of the change in the GDR , he was released in 1990. He then emerged as editor at edition ost .
