Hugo Budinger

Hugo Ernst Budinger (born June 10, 1927 in Düsseldorf , † October 7, 2017 in Cologne ) was a German hockey player . He won an Olympic bronze medal in 1956.

Life

Hugo Budinger from Rot-Weiss Köln played 58 international matches for the German national team between 1951 and 1961 . He took part in the Olympic Games three times as a player, in 1952 in Helsinki he was eliminated with the team in the quarter-finals against the Netherlands team . At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , the team lost 1-0 in the semi-finals against the Indians. The Germans won the bronze medal match 3-1 against the British. In 1960 in Rome , Budinger was on the team that took seventh place. Budinger played in the position of the center forward.

For winning the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Melbourne, he received the silver bay leaf on January 21, 1957 .

In addition to his sporting career, Budinger studied sport science and then worked as a lecturer at the German Sport University in Cologne , where he also received his doctorate in 1979. In 1975 Budinger founded the Cologne Trainer Academy and was its first director. In 1993 Hugo Budinger retired. In 1991 he was appointed honorary professor at the German Sport University Cologne.

In addition to his professional career, he worked as a national coach, sports supervisor and most recently as Vice President for the German Hockey Association . Budinger was a personal member of the NOK until 1993, and from 1993 he was a member of its council of elders. In the 1990s he was also committed to the German Golf Association .

In 2011 Hugo Budinger was inducted into the Hall of Fame of German Sports .

He died in 2017 at the age of 90.
