Hugo XII. from Lusignan

Hugo XII. von Lusignan (* around 1235/1240; † after August 25, 1270 near Tunis ) was Lord of Lusignan , Couhé and Peyrat, Count of La Marche and Angoulême .

He was the son of Hugo XI. by Lusignan and Jolanda by Dreux.

In 1253 or 1254 he married Johanna von Fougères († after 1273), daughter of Raoul III. , Lord of Fougères ( House Fougères ) and Isabella of Craon. With her he had seven children:

  • Hugo XIII. (* 1259; † 1303) Lord of Lusignan, Count of La Marche and Angoulême
  • Guido I. († 1308) Lord of Couhé and Peyrat, from 1303 also Lord of Lusignan, Count of La Marche and Angoulême
  • Jolanda I. (* 1257; † 1314) from 1308 Mistress of Couhé and Peyrat, Mistress of Lusignan, Countess of La Marche
  • Johanna († 1323), ⚭ 1) Bernhard IV. († 1280) Lord of Albret , 2) Piers von Geneville († 1292) Lord of Trim and Ludlow

He succeeded his father after his grandfather Hugo X. in 1249 and his father Hugo XI. 1250 both on the Sixth Crusade under King Louis IX. had fallen in Egypt. In 1270 Hugo XII accompanied the same King Louis IX. on the Seventh Crusade to Tunisia. During the siege of Tunis , the king died of an epidemic on August 25, 1270. Before an armistice was concluded with the Caliph of Tunis on October 30, 1270, Hugo had also died. His eldest son, Hugo XIII. became his successor.
