Humanitarian action

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Humanitarian missions are assistance or support measures by armed forces abroad. These are used in emergencies or disasters, e.g. B. for medical care, technical support, water treatment, for the transport and distribution of relief supplies, for the maintenance of the communication systems and for the protection of civil aid organizations .

The Bundeswehr has been involved in over 120 humanitarian missions in more than 50 countries since 1960. They are only deployed following a request for assistance from the Federal Foreign Office or a decision by the federal government. Often the operations take place within the framework of multinational aid operations of the United Nations .

A distinction must be made between humanitarian interventions and humanitarian aid by civil organizations.
