The Humen Pearl River Bridge ( Chinese  虎門 大橋  /  虎门 大桥 , Pinyin Hǔmén Dàqiáo , Jyutping Fu 2 mun 4 Dai 6 kiu 4 ) is a bridge over the Pearl River near the city of Humen in Guangdong Province in southern China. It consists of two main parts - a suspension bridge structure and a section made of concrete segments. The bridge connects the Nansha district in Guangzhou with the city of Humen in Dongguan . The bridge is also important as it connects the larger Shenzhen and Zhuhai economic regions . The building ground around the bridge is fairly cheap with rock and thin layers of soil on top of the rock, although the building ground is different on both sides of the river. The bridge was completed in 1997. Their main span is 888 meters. The longest concrete segment is 237 meters long, making it one of the longest of its kind in the world. Their total length is 3,618 meters. It is part of the Dongguan – Foshan motorway (G9411). A new bridge called the Second Humen Bridge ( 虎门 二桥 ) is to be built near the Humen-Pearl River Bridge to protect the older bridge from being overloaded by excessive traffic.

Sections and Specifications

The bridge consists of five parts: the east and west driveway, a suspension bridge structure, a concrete segment section and a central connecting section. Since typhoons often occur in the Pearl River Delta , a permissible wind load of 219 km / h was assumed for the design of the bridge .
