Humphrey Tonkin
Humphrey Richard Tonkin (born December 2, 1939 in Truro , Great Britain ) is a professor of English language and literature, specializing in the period of the Renaissance and Edmund Spenser , also on linguistic usage and international languages. Tonkin is a UK and US citizen .
He received his diploma from Cambridge and his doctorate from Harvard . In 1974 he received the Lindback Award for excellent teaching. Among other things, he was President of Potsdam College at the State University of New York and the University of Hartford in Hartford , Connecticut . Now he teaches on Shakespeare and the development of the theater. Tonkin is a co-editor of Language Problems and Language Planning magazine .
Tonkin learned Esperanto as a teenager. In 1963 he founded the youth magazine Kontakto, which still exists today, and from 1969 to 1971 he was chairman of the World Association of Young Esperantists . From 1974 to 1980 and from 1986 to 1989 Tonkin was chairman of the Esperanto World Federation ( Universala Esperanto-Asocio ). Tonkin has written numerous articles in and about Esperanto and has also translated Shakespearean dramas.
