The Integrated Regional Information Network , shortly IRIN (of English IRIN ), since 2019 The New Humanitarian , is a news agency in Geneva . IRIN was founded in 1995 as a UN information service, specifically for the areas of Sub-Saharan Africa and Central Asia , as part of the UN Emergency Aid Coordinator (OCHA). It understood its work explicitly politically: IRIN supported efforts for conflict resolution and reconciliation by countering disinformation and propaganda .

As of January 2015, IRIN separated from the UN organization. In 2016, the agency was redesigned as an independent association and the focus should continue to be on humanitarian aid. With the renaming in 2019, the aim is to open up to a larger target group that, in addition to experts, also addresses newcomers and laypeople.

170 freelance journalists in 70 countries work for the agency.
