I Will Wait for You is a song by Michel Legrand (music) and Jacques Demy (lyrics) released in 1964.

Legrand / Demy wrote the song for the musical film Die Regenschirme von Cherbourg (original title: Les Parapluies de Cherbourg , 1964, director: Jacques Demy), with Catherine Deneuve and Nino Castelnuovo in the leading roles. The singing doubles of the two actors were Danielle Licari (for Deneuve) and José Bartel. The song, the English text of which is by Norman Gimbel , received an Oscar nomination in 1966 for the best song category .

The first two lines of the song read: If it takes forever, I will wait for you / For a thousand summers, I will wait for you.

I Will Wait for You appeared on the soundtrack LP The Umbrellas of Cherbourg by Disques Vogue . Cover versions of the song were released from the mid-1960s a. a.
