Iain Canning (born July 23, 1979 in Bristol , England ) is a British film producer . For the film The King's Speech , he won an Oscar in the category Best Picture in 2011 .

Life

Canning studied at the Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies .

Canning was executive producer in the two award-winning films Control and Hunger . The latter won u. a. the Golden Camera at the Cannes International Film Festival . In 2008 he founded the production company See-Saw Films together with Emile Sherman , with which they have since made numerous films, including The King's Speech with Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush and Oranges and Sunshine with Emily Watson and Hugo Weaving .

For The King's Speech , Canning won the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 2011 Academy Awards, along with Emile Sherman and Gareth Unwin . The film also won the British Academy Film Award and was nominated for numerous other awards. Shame , like Hunger, a film by British artist Steve McQueen that Canning produced in 2011, has also been nominated for numerous awards. Due to their success with See-Saw Films , Canning and Sherman were included in the 2011 MediaGuardian 100 list of the British daily The Guardian .
