Igapó forest

Igapó in the state of Amazonas (Brazil)

The alluvial forest - the ecosystem of the evergreen tropical rainforest , which is regularly flooded in the floodplains along the low-nutrient, humic acid -rich black water rivers of the Amazon and in the delta of the Amazon River - is called the Igapó forest or Igapó for short . The herb layer is only slightly developed because of the long-lasting flooding. In Igapó the trees are lower than in the non-flooded Terra Firme forests or the Várzea forests in the floodplain of the white water rivers .
