Ignace Abdo Khalifé

Ignace Abdo Khalifé SJ (born May 10, 1914 in Wady Chahrour , Lebanon , † July 7, 1998 ) was the first Maronite bishop of Sydney in Australia .

Life

Khalife joined the Congregation of the Jesuits in and received on 24 August 1943, the priestly ordination .

On March 20, 1970 he was appointed auxiliary bishop and patriarchal vicar in Antioch and titular archbishop pro hac vice of Apamea in Syria dei Maroniti . The Maronite Patriarch of Antioch , Pierre-Paul Cardinal Méouchi , donated him episcopal ordination on April 5, 1970 ; as co-consecrators assisted Nasrallah Pierre Sfeir , Auxiliary Bishop of Antioch , and Joseph Salame , Apostolic Administrator of Latakia in Syria. On June 25, 1973, Ignace Abdo Khalifé was appointed archbishop pro hac vice of the eparchy of St. Marron of Sydney , which was established on the same date .

On November 23, 1990, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

He was co- consecrator with Joseph Merhi CML as Bishop of Cairo .

Publications

Khalifé published several articles and contributions, in addition, he wrote contributions for the compilation of the Université Saint-Joseph .
