Igor Štimac (born September 6, 1967 in Metković , SR Croatia , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian football coach and former player . From 2012 to 2013 he was the coach of the Croatian national soccer team . He is currently the coach of the Indian national team .
Career
As a player
In his active career, Igor Štimac played for Hajduk Split , Dinamo Vinkovci (loan), FC Cádiz , Derby County and West Ham United . For the Croatian national soccer team , with which he finished third at the 1998 World Cup in France , he completed 53 games and scored two goals.
As a trainer
After the end of his career, Štimac started at Hajduk Split as a coach and sporting director. In the last few years he has worked as a co-commentator on Croatian television . As an advocate of a league with 16 clubs, he was instrumental in increasing the 1st HNL to 16 clubs from the 2009/10 season. From September 2009 to May 2010 he was head coach at NK Zagreb .
On July 1, 2012, he succeeded Slaven Bilić as coach of the Croatian national team . On October 16, 2013, Igor Štimac was sacked by the Croatian Football Association (HNS) after the national team had lost 2-0 to Scotland in qualifying for the 2014 World Cup the day before . His successor was Niko Kovač .
