Ilse Kleberger

Ilse Kleberger , née Krahn (born March 22, 1921 in Potsdam , † January 2, 2012 in Berlin ) was a German writer .

Life

Ilse Kleberger attended schools in Burgstädt (Saxony), Potsdam, Berlin-Schlachtensee, Berlin-Friedenau and Schneidemühl. She graduated from high school in Schneidemühl .

She did military service for a farmer in Pomerania and set up a German kindergarten in the German-Polish town of Margonin. Instead of pursuing her wish to become a journalist, she studied medicine in Berlin, Greifswald and Tübingen and was therefore exempted from the Reich Labor Service . Through the chaos of war she moved from Potsdam to Berlin-Nikolassee and Wannsee. In 1946 Ilse Kleberger finished her medical studies with the state examination and then worked in the surgical clinic in Berlin-Nikolassee and later also in Wannsee. In 1949 she married the ophthalmologist and later professor of ophthalmology Eberhard Kleberger. In 1950 Ilse Kleberger received her doctorate as Dr. med. and gave birth to their daughter Andrea in the same year. She opened a general practice on the outskirts of Berlin and lived in the city until her death.

Act

Her first poems were published in 1948 by Wedding-Verlag in the anthology “Young Berlin”. From the 1950s onwards, Ilse Kleberger wrote poetry , travel feuilletons and finally children's books, the first of which were addressed to her daughter and two nephews. From 1980 Kleberger wrote novels for young people, including a number of biographies about Käthe Kollwitz ( A gift is a task ), Ernst Barlach ( The Wanderer in the Wind ), Bertha von Suttner ( The Vision of Peace ) and Albert Schweitzer ( The Symbol and Man ).

Her books have been translated into Danish , English , French, Italian, Polish , Dutch, Czech , Hebrew, Japanese and Chinese. The total circulation of her grandma children's book series reached over 4 million copies. In her final years, Ilse Kleberger worked on the contemporary witness exchange .

Awards

  • 1980: In the best list of the German Youth Literature Prize with Eine Gabe ist eingabe. Käthe Kollwitz
  • 1990: The golden paperback of the Ravensburger publishing house for exceeding the million mark of the books about Our Grandma
  • 1994: 1st prize in the poetry competition of the city of Benevento (Italy) for the poem Conjuration of Aetna
