Imogen Stubbs

Imogen Stubbs (born February 20, 1961 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne , England , United Kingdom ) is a British actress .

life and career

Stubbs was born in Northumberland and lived in Portsmouth for a short time . After her family moved into a houseboat on the Thames in London , she attended St Paul's Girls' School in Hammersmith and Westminster School . She later studied at Exeter College , Oxford . She received her acting training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art .

She became known for her stage presence with the Royal Shakespeare Company , including as Desdemona in the Othello production by her future husband Trevor Nunn . In several Hollywood films she was mostly in supporting roles such as in Jack and Sarah - Daddy alone ( Jack & Sarah , 1995) as Sarah, but also in leading roles such as in the Shakespeare film What You Want ( Twelfth Night , 1996) as Viola . She also appeared on television, including in Shakespeare films and as the protagonist of the series Anna Lee .

Stubbs is also active as a writer. In July 2004 her play We Happy Few had its premiere at the Gielgud Theater in London. It is about an all-female theater company that travels around Britain during World War II to make Shakespeare accessible to a wide audience. The piece was produced by Trevor Nunn. It starred Juliet Stevenson , Kate O'Mara and Marcia Warren .

Imogen Stubbs has been married to Sir Trevor Nunn , 21 years his senior, since 1994 and has two children with him. The couple has been separated since April 2011 .
