Incident in New Baghdad ( English for: incident / incident in New Baghdad ) is an American short documentary film directed by James Spies from 2011. It deals with the airstrikes on Baghdad on July 12, 2007 .

The short film premiered on April 24, 2011 at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival , where it received the award in the “Best Short Documentary” category. The documentary won the Grand Prix in the same category at the Rhode Island International Film Festival , with the audience award going to Incident in New Baghdad at the Tallgrass Film Festival .

James Spione used the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter.com to enable a theatrical release in Los Angeles and thus also an Oscar nomination . He took 11,960 dollars , where its initial target was 7,850 US dollars. On January 24, 2011, the documentary was nominated for an Oscar 2012 in the category Best Documentary Short .

The story tells of the July 12, 2007 air strikes on Baghdad, which gained worldwide fame through WikiLeaks' publication of original footage under the name Collateral Murder , from the perspective of Ethan McCord. McCord was one of the first six soldiers to come to the scene as ground forces after the air strikes took place. In the attack on " New Baghdad " (Arabic: Baghdād al-dschadīda, بغداد الجديدة; German "New Baghdad") between 12 and 18 people were killed and two children between the ages of five and ten were injured. In the short documentary, Ethan McCord tells of his impressions on site and how these had a lasting impact on his life. McCord suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and became an opponent of the Iraq war .
