Infinity Ward, Inc. is an American computer game development studio. The studio became famous for the Call of Duty game series . The studio has been part of the US publisher Activision since 2003 .

Company history

The company was founded in August 2001 by 22 former developers of the game Medal of Honor: Allied Assault . After the publisher Activision had already acquired a 30 percent stake in the company in May 2002, it took over the remaining 70 percent of the company at the end of October 2003. Is led Infinity Ward President and co-founder Grant Collier.

On March 1, 2010, President Jason West and CEO Vince Zampella were fired from Activision, who founded a new development studio called Respawn Entertainment in April 2010 and announced a cooperation with Activision's competitor Electronic Arts (EA). As a result, 25 more employees left Infinity Ward. Several reciprocal lawsuits arose between Activision and its former employees and competitor EA.

Call of Duty

Call of Duty , Infinity Ward's first release, won numerous awards for best game. The sequel Call of Duty 2 sold over a million copies in the United States alone. Even Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was settle a commercial success and was able to more than eleven million units. According to Activision Blizzard, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 broke a sales record with 4.7 million units sold in the first 24 hours in the US and UK, but Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 broke a record with 6.5 million units sold first Day that was exceeded.
