Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir (born December 31, 1954 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic politician of the Social Democratic Alliance . She was Mayor of Reykjavík from 1994 to 2003 and Icelandic Foreign Minister from 2007 to 2009. Political career

Ingibjörg Sólrún began her political career in the women's alliance party (Samtök um kvennalista). She represented her on the Reykjavík City Council from 1982 to 1988 . As a member of the Women's Alliance, she was a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing from 1991 to 1994 , where she was the representative of the then Reykjavík constituency. In 2000, the alliance (Samfylkingin) emerged from several parties, including the women's alliance . As an alliance member, Ingibjörg Sólrún was again a member of the Althing from 2005–2007 ( constituency of Reykjavík-North ) and 2007–2009 ( constituency of Reykjavík-South ).

Ingibjörg Sólrún became mayor of Reykjavík on June 13, 1994 when the Independence Party lost its majority in the city after twelve years. It was supported by a coalition of several parties. She held this office until February 1, 2003. That year she ran again for the Icelandic parliament Althing . Due to a controversy about the dual function as mayor and member of parliament and the support of her coalition in this regard, she resigned as mayor.

In 2005, she became chairman of the alliance after narrowly defeating previous party chairman Össur Skarphéðinsson in a vote. After the parliamentary elections in 2007 , she became Foreign Minister in the government of Geir Haarde on May 24, 2007 .

At the end of March 2009, she was replaced as party leader by Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir .

Since July 2017 she heads in place of Michael Georg Link , the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights ( Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, ODIHR ) of the OSCE.
