Ingo Walther (born July 3, 1947 ) was a soccer player in Eberswalde and East Berlin . For 1. FC Union Berlin he played temporarily in the GDR Oberliga , the highest East German division.

Career as a soccer player

Before Ingo Walther came to the first division club 1. FC Union Berlin, he played for the company sports community (BSG) Motor Eberswalde in the third-class district league Frankfurt . Before his move, he became district champion with BSG Motor in 1970, but the team failed in the promotion round to the GDR league . For the 1970/71 season Walther was delegated to 1. FC Union.

The GDR capital club initially used Walther in the 2nd team playing in the Berlin district league. It was not until the 19th match day of the 1970/71 season that Walther made his first appearance in the league team. In the game Union Berlin - Dynamo Dresden (2: 1) on April 18, 1971, he was substituted in in the 73rd minute. By the end of the season he played a total of five times in the league, in three games he was a defender in the starting eleven. Also in the 1971/72 season Walther played mainly in the 2nd team, in the major league he was called up in only four games. He was twice in the league team from the start, only on matchday 7 he played in defense over the full distance. In his ninth and last game for Union in the 1-0 away win at Hansa Rostock on March 18, 1972, Walther was substituted on in the 76th minute.

For the 1972/73 season Walther returned to BSG Motor Eberswalde, which had just been promoted to the GDR league. There he played until the end of 1973 to move to the East Berlin GDR league club EAB Lichtenberg 47 for the second half of the 1973/74 season . In 1974/75, the 27-year-old Walther joined the newly promoted GDR league BSG Narva Berlin , after which he no longer appeared in higher-class GDR football.
