Ingrid Bodsch

Ingrid Bodsch (born January 22, 1953 in Graz ) is an Austrian historian and museum director based in Bonn .

Life

After graduating from high school with the Ursulines in Graz and four semesters of medieval and modern history, art history, ancient history, German and folklore at the Karl-Franzens-University Graz , Bodsch moved to the University of Bonn . There she completed her studies in 1977 with a Magister Artium (MA). From 1977 to 1981 she was a research assistant at the History Department of the University of Bonn under Professors Paul Egon Hübinger and Eugen Ewig . 1981 to 1985 she worked as a research assistant at the Museum Schnütgen in Cologne, where she co- designed and realized the exhibition Ornamenta Ecclesiae , Art and Artists of the Romanesque (Kunsthalle Cologne, 1985) under the direction of the then director and legendary exhibition organizer, Anton Legner .

In 1977 she married the molecular biologist Wolfram Bodsch and accompanied him on research stays in the USA , where she worked at the Getty Museum in Malibu , California , and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City between 1986 and 1988 .

Ingrid Bodsch received her doctorate from the University of Bonn in 1988 and was then appointed to plan and organize the exhibition for the 2000th anniversary of the city of Jülich . Since it was re-established in 1989, she has headed the Bonn City Museum , which she played a key role in building.

From 2003 to 2007 she was the spokesperson for the section on cultural history museums and art museums in the German Association of Museums . In 2005, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) entrusted her with the project management of the “Schumann Network”. In 2010 she coordinated the celebrations for the Schumann Year on the occasion of the 200th birthday of the composer Robert Schumann . In 2011, together with Irmgard Knechtges-Obrecht, with the support of the State Minister for Culture, she initiated the international Schumann Forum, which was launched in October 2011 in Bonn with the baritone Christian Gerhaher as the first member and sponsor in a ceremony. In 2013 she took over the project management for the International Richard Wagner Conference in Leipzig.

Since 2006, Ingrid Bodsch has been the recipient of the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art, thanks to the award given by the Federal President of the Republic of Austria . In 2013 she was also awarded the Great Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria .
