insufficiency

Insufficiency (the opposite of the Latin sufficere , “to suffice”) means inadequacy, inability or weakness. The opposite is sufficiency .

The term is used especially in medicine for the restricted functionality or insufficient performance of an organ or organ system (e.g. cardiac or renal insufficiency ). The Latin term Insufficientia (e.g. Insufficientia cordis for heart failure) is also used synonymously .

In the field of surgery, the tearing out of sutures (for example on the intestines, the abdominal wall or the muscles) is also referred to as insufficiency ("seam insufficiency").

In jurisprudence, insufficiency describes the financial situation of a debtor who is unable to sufficiently satisfy his creditors.
