World Higher Education Database (WHED)

The IAU maintains a worldwide database of colleges and university institutions ( Worldwide Database of Higher Education Institutions, Systems and Credentials ; WHED), which was published on CD-ROM until 2013 . In September 2014 the WHED database was put online with its own public portal. It contains information from over 180 countries and over 18,000 institutions.

WHED is based on information provided by national authorities and higher education institutions, which conforms to the IAU data collection rules. The admission criteria in WHED include, in particular, that a higher education institution must offer at least one postgraduate course or a recognized / accredited four-year course and that at least three cohorts of students have completed this.
