The International Freedom Battalion ( Turkish Enternasyonalist Özgürlük Taburu , Kurdish : Tabûra Azadî ya ínternasyonal, Arabic تابور الحرية العالمي), commonly abbreviated as IFB or EÖT, is an armed group of left and left-wing extremist foreign fighters who fight for the People's Defense Units (YPG) in the Syrian Civil War in support of the Rojava Revolution and against the Islamic State . The establishment of the International Freedom Battalion was announced on June 10, 2015 in Serê Kaniyê (Ras al-Ayn). The inspiration for the group came from the International Brigades of the Spanish Civil War . The political ideologies of the fighters include Marxism-Leninism , Hoxhaism , Maoism and anarchism .

The fighters come from various European left and left-wing extremist groups, with the largest group coming from Turkey's Marksist Leninist Komünist Parti (MLKP). At least seven members MLCP came in the fighting so far lost their lives, among them from Duisburg Dating Ivana Hoffmann .
