International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology

The International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE), officially founded by Stanley A. Edlavitch in 1989 during the 5th International Conference on Pharmacoepidemiology in Minneapolis , is currently the only international society that represents the interests of pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacovigilance . It holds regular annual meetings ("International Conference on Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety" for short "ICPE") and is based in Bethesda (Maryland) , USA .

The 35th International Conference on Pharmacoepidemiology and Therapeutic Risk Management (ICPE) took place in Philadelphia in 2019 . The next mid-year meeting was supposed to take place from April 18th to 21st in Orlando, Florida , but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic . The 36th ICPE, planned from August 26 to 30, 2020 at the Hotel Estrel in Berlin, was also canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Instead, a virtual conference is planned.

Members of the ISPE come from the fields of university research ( pharmacology , pharmacy , epidemiology ), pharmaceutical industry , institutes for contract research in drug development and government institutions such as the Food and Drug Administration , European Medicines Agency , BfArM and Robert Koch Institute , which among others also are involved in the approval of medicinal products . Members from 53 nations are currently represented in the ISPE. The international journal Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety is the Society's official journal and is accessible through MEDLINE . The current Scribe newsletter is available on the company's official website. The current president of the society is Almut G. Winterstein from the University of Florida , College of Pharmacy. Executive Secretary is James Vrac, CAE. Mark H. Epstein is Executive Secretary Emeritus.
