IGB programmatic positions

to IMF, World Bank and WTO

In its program, the ITUC takes a stand on the IMF , the World Bank and the WTO :

  • "9. The effective and democratic governance of the global economy requires a fundamental reform of the relevant international organizations, especially the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and the World Trade Organization (WTO). Their decision-making processes must be more transparent and democratic and their collective political positions At the same time, all organizations must recognize that human rights take precedence over financial, commercial or economic regulation and that governments must take more seriously their role of guiding them and making them more coherent and accountable, democratically determined Goals are achieved. "

Especially for the IMF and World Bank :

  • 11. The IMF and World Bank continue to run anti-labor and anti-poor programs, typically supporting privatization, trade and investment liberalization, and labor deregulation. In many countries they have the means of government to provide effective governance The international financial institutions must take up the alternatives proposed by the ITUC that promote, rather than undermine, sustainable and socially just development. "

Especially about the WTO :

  • "12. Since its inception, the WTO has been the instrument for an unsustainable trade liberalization model that exacerbates worker exploitation, development inequalities, environmental degradation and gender imbalances. Congress recognizes that the international trade system is not conducive to development and that An integrated effort across the multilateral system must ensure that this is the case. Developing countries must have sufficient leeway to pursue domestic industrial development strategies consistent with the decent work agenda and to participate fully in WTO decision-making can."
  • "13. Congress also stresses the imperative that the WTO address social and labor issues and calls on it to set up a working group or permanent working forum on trade, social development and labor standards, with the full participation of the International Labor Organization . The ITUC must work towards the inclusion of a workers' rights clause in the WTO statutes to ensure that all goods and services traded between countries are produced and distributed in accordance with core labor standards . Such a clause would be anti-protectionist, pro-development and an indispensable tool for social justice in an open world trade system. It should be accompanied by technical cooperation to help countries fully comply with labor standards. "

to the ILO

The International Labor Organization (ILO / ILO) is mentioned in several places in the ITUC program. An entire section of the program is also dedicated to her:

"The International Labor Organization as a global reference point
  • 33. Congress reaffirms its strong support for the International Labor Organization in fulfilling its ongoing historic mandate to promote social justice and the rights and interests of workers worldwide. It commits the ITUC, through the ILO Workers' Group, to strengthen the ILO , to widen women's participation in it and make their work more effective. "
  • "34. Congress supports the ILO's decent work agenda - implementation of international labor standards, policies for full employment, social protection and social dialogue - through which the Organization has increased its position and visibility, and calls on the ITUC to: to participate comprehensively in their concrete implementation. "
as well as the following paragraphs 35 to 37 ..

to the UN

The United Nations (UN) is mentioned in several places in the ITUC program. They are also much of the section

"Peace, Security, and the United Nations" (Paragraphs 38–45)

dedicated:

  • "38. Congress reaffirms the ITUC's commitment to building a peaceful and secure world in which people of all countries live in mutual respect and tolerance, without the risk of armed conflict, terror - from governmental or non-governmental actors - or otherwise Forms of violence. Peace is a prerequisite for achieving union goals. "
  • "39. Congress rejects unilateralism on international issues and commits the ITUC to all possible support for the vital role of the United Nations in maintaining peace and the peaceful settlement of conflicts. It condemns the 2003 decision, the war in Iraq to begin without the express permission of the UN and demand a role for the UN to end the occupation of this country. "
