Ipanema (from Tupí : y = water; and panema = agitated) is a district and a famous beach of Rio de Janeiro , Brazil . The quarter became known, among other things, through the song Garota de Ipanema ( The Girl from Ipanema ) by Antônio Carlos Jobim .
In addition to the northeastern Copacabana , Ipanema is the most important beach in Rio. The neighborhood directly adjacent to it is one of the more upscale of Rio. Between the quiet beach of Copacabana and the wilder beach of Ipanema are the rocky promontory Arpoador ("harpooner") with the military Forte de Copacabana .
location
Ipanema is located in the extreme south in the sub-prefecture Zona Sul of Rio on an extensive sea bay. To the west joins Leblon , which is located on the same bay. To the north of Ipanema is the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas and to the east is the Copacabana.
tourism
Ipanema is a major attraction in the city of Rio de Janeiro, for both Brazilian and international tourists. Every year, many tourists flock to the traditional neighborhood and its beach, which is very crowded on weekends.
