Islamic World Congress

The Islamic World Congress ( English World Muslim Congress - WMC ; Arabic مؤتمر العالم الإسلامي, DMG Muʾtamar al-ʿĀlam al-Islāmī , abbr. MAI ) is an Islamic organization based in Karachi . It has offices in Geneva , Jeddah and Vienna and its current president is Abdullah bin Omer Naseef .

Its co-founder and general secretary for more than four decades was Inamullah Khan (1912–1997). The World Islamic Congress was the recipient of the Niwano Peace Prize in 1987 and Inamullah Khan was the recipient of the Templeton Prize in 1988 .

history

The organization was founded in Karachi in 1949 , after the founding of Pakistan in 1947 . Mohammed Amin al-Husseini , the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem , presided over the conference and was elected President of the Congress.

The roots of the congress, officially founded in 1949, go back to a congress organized by Abd al-Aziz ibn Saud in Mecca in 1926 , shortly after Ibn Saud's occupation of Mecca and Medina ; the latter hoped to have his administration of the holy places sanctioned by Islam, instead this provoked a lot of criticism that prevented him from being called again. Mohammed Amin al-Husseini was also a leading figure at this congress.

According to Hussein Haqqani , the 1949 World Muslim Conference sponsored by the Pakistani government to promote pan-Islamism and chaired by the Palestinian Grand Mufti Amin al-Husseini led to the formation of the World Muslim Congress, which has since played an essential role in the creation of a Muslim The “victim mentality” plays, which has shaped the global Islamist movement in the following.

According to a received protocol, Said Ramadan appeared in Munich in 1958 as "General Secretary" of the Islamic World Congress in front of the mosque construction commission for the Freimann Mosque and donated 1000 DM on behalf of the organization  .
