The Italjet Dragster (1998–2003) from the Italian manufacturer Italjet Moto is the only series-produced scooter with a stub axle steering and tubular space frame. In 1997, Alessandro and Leopoldo Tartarini received a patent for a tubular space frame and stub axle steering for scooters.

technology

The stub axle steering is a very seldom used type of front wheel control on motorcycles ; this wheel control has not yet been used on scooters. The Yamaha GTS 1000 (1993–1997) can be seen as the inspiration for the Tartarini brothers. The dragster series was characterized by innovative technology and exceptional design.

"This scooter is not for pragmatists, but a clear case for exhibitionists."

- MOTORRAD Test 2001, p. 218

All dragster models are based on a frame version that was obviously designed for increased performance. The front wheel was delivered in size 120 / 70–11, the rear wheel in size 130 / 70–12 (2007 model 130 / 60–13), the wheelbase was 1310 mm. The Dragster 50 model was temporarily relaunched in 2007, in addition to the Dragster 250 model. The stub axle steering on the Italjet Dragster left the impression of driving an “inharmonious and wobbly driving behavior at low speeds”. In addition, the background noise - despite the water cooling and the unregulated catalytic converter - of the large two-stroke engine was criticized:

“It is impossible to roll inconspicuously through the residential area with the Italjet Dragster 180. But whoever buys this scooter doesn't want that at all. "
