Ivan Klansky

Ivan Klánský (born May 13, 1948 in Prague ) is a Czech pianist and music teacher.

Klánský studied from 1963 to 1968 at the Prague Conservatory with Valentina Kameníková and then until 1973 at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (AMU) with František Rauch . He won competitions in Bolzano ( International Piano Competition Ferruccio Busoni , 1967), Naples (1968), Leipzig ( International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition , 1968), Barcelona (1970) and Warsaw (1970), and gave numerous concerts as a soloist and chamber musician and was solo pianist with the Czech Philharmonic from 1995 to 2000 . Since 1986 he has been a member of the Prague Guarneri Trio , with which he has recorded several CDs.

Klánský has been teaching at the AMU since 1983, where he has headed the keyboard instrument department since 1997. In 1991 he became Professor of Music at the Lucerne School of Music. He also gave master classes a. a. in Dublin (1982–86) and Bad Sulgau (since 1997). His students include Helena Suchárová-Weiser , Eliška Gazdová-Novotná , Martin Kasík and Štěpán Kos . As President of the Czech Chopin Society (since 1995) he directs the Chopin Festival in Marienbad.
