Iwao Hakamada

Iwao Hakamada ( Japanese 袴 田 巌 Hakamada Iwao ; born March 10, 1936 in Shizuoka Prefecture , Japan ) is a former Japanese boxer who was arrested on August 8, 1966 and accused of multiple murders, arson and theft. He was sentenced to death on September 11, 1968 by the Shizuoka District Court . Hakamada was released on March 27, 2014 after the Shizuoka District Court retried him and a DNA test proved his innocence. As early as March 10, 2011, Hakamada was recorded in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest person on a death row .
