Jörn Albrecht

Jörn Albrecht (born August 31, 1939 in Berlin ) is a German linguist and professor emeritus at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg .

Life

Jörn Albrecht grew up in Swabia and studied Romance languages , German and general linguistics in Berlin and Tübingen , interrupted by a one-year stay in France as assistant d'allemand and shorter study trips to France, Spain and Italy. The first state examination (1966), the doctorate on Le français langue abstraite? (1970) and the habilitation (1977) took place in Tübingen. From 1971 to 1974 he was a German lecturer at the University of Florence . Afterwards he worked at different universities in different positions.

From 1978 to 1981 he was a substitute professor for Romance Linguistics at the University of Würzburg , from 1981 to 1984 he was professor for Italian studies in Mainz-Germersheim, then he held the chair for general and applied linguistics in Mainz-Germersheim. Since 1991 he has held a chair at the Institute for Translation and Interpreting (IÜD) at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg , with a special focus on French . In 2004 he retired.

Albrecht's main research interests are literary translation, text linguistics and structuralism . The thematic range of his academic work ranges from philosophical and general linguistic studies, historical, descriptive and contrastive studies on French, Italian and German, through monographs and essays on translation research, to individual interpretations of literary texts and translations from French and Italian.

Albrecht sits on the advisory board of the specialist journal ReLÜ .
