The Jewish cemetery in Werl-Büderich

The Jewish cemetery Werl-Büderich is a Jewish cemetery in the town of Werl in the Soest district . It is on the street Am Jüdischen Friedhof.

history

There are seven graves on the 605 m² site. Jews were first mentioned in Büderich in 1744, but the unnamed Jew who installed a glass window in the Kunibert Church in 1690 was possibly also a Büderichian. In 1748 there was a Jewish cemetery in the field between Büderich and Holtum , next to the land of a farmer Feldmann. Because of the perpetual right to rest, it can be assumed that this is identical to the cemetery that is still preserved today. The exact time of origin of this cemetery is not known. A sign attached to the entrance dates its use from the second half of the 19th century to 1925. A tombstone mentions July 13, 1881 as the date of death. The last burial took place on May 26, 1991.
