Jürgen Stemmler

Jürgen Stemmler (born July 6, 1946 in Offenburg ; † January 5, 1998 in Chur / CH ) was a German hockey player and coach. He played 17 times for the German national hockey team .

Career

Jürgen Stemmler played as a goalkeeper for his hometown club TV 1846 Offenburg until he was 17, before moving to HC Lahr for three years. When he began his studies in 1966, he joined HC Heidelberg , to which he remained loyal as a player and coach until his death. During his time as an active player, he was once German indoor hockey champion with the HCH in a 12: 3 final win against the Berlin HC in 1971 . Between 1974 and 1976 he guarded the goal of the German national team seventeen times. He was twice involved in winning the European championship in the hall, 1974 in Berlin and 1976 in Arnheim / NL .

As a coach he managed to lead the team of HC Heidelberg to the title in field hockey in 1982. In the final the Limburger HC was defeated 3-2. Team members were the national players Michael Peter , Dieter Freise and his successor as goalkeeper Christian Bassemir . Later he was in charge of the A-youth national team of the German Hockey Association .

The doctor of education was the head of the secondary school in Weinheim until his sudden cardiac death . For many years he was a school hockey consultant in Baden-Württemberg . Jürgen Stemmler was buried in the cemetery where he lived in Leimen .
