Jürgen Valdeig (born March 27, 1951 in Erfurt ) is a German painter and publisher.

Life

He spent his childhood and youth at Erfurt Cathedral Square and visited the Bodetal , Harz , Heidelberg and Rhineland in the 1950s . In 1968 the intensive occupation and artistic examination of the history of Erfurt began. Since 1964 the first publications have appeared in the press. Since 1978 he has been writing regularly illustrated, editorial articles on the history of Erfurt, Thuringia and the USA .

1973 began the official sale of pen drawings and oil paintings in the regional picture and art trade as well as in Berlin and Leipzig . From 1973 to 1976 he received artistic guidance and support from the Erfurt painters Otto Knöpfer and Albert Habermann. For Luther's jubilee in 1983 he was involved in the Erfurt exhibition during Luther's time . It was during this time that an intensive friendship began with the Grand Canyon photographer Carlos Elmer from Arizona (USA).

Valdeig has been working as a freelance painter since 1987, and in 1990 he began producing art postcards, calendars, graphics and art prints on the history of Erfurt, Thuringia and the USA. In 1992 he was the first German artist to present his USA art exhibition in the Grand Canyon Visitor Center , integrated in the permanent exhibition by John Wesley Powell . After an exhibition with a lecture in 1995 at the Goethe Institute in Houston (Texas) on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Thuringia by the US Army , further exhibitions followed in the USA as well as study trips to the USA and Mexico . In 2004 he was inducted into the Grand Canyon Association .

The art dealer Valdeig has been exhibiting in Erfurt's old town since 2001. On the occasion of his 60th birthday, from March to August 2011 the Museum Neue Mühle showed the exhibition Jürgen Valdeig - 40 years of painting with passion . Together with Steffen Raßloff, Valdeig created the memorial plaque at Erfurt Marktstrasse 6 for the builder of the Brooklyn Bridge , Johann August Röbling . A greeting from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg can also be seen on the board .

To commemorate the motocross race International Six Days Trial in Erfurt in September 1964, in which the US actor Steve McQueen participated, Valdeig reconstructed and published a watercolor in 2014 . In April 2019 Valdeig presented his newly published picture book Picturesque Thuringia to Chancellor Angela Merkel during a meeting of the senior editorial team as a member of the Thuringian General .

Valdeig is the official Erfurt ambassador and is involved as a board member in the Friends of the Erfurt City Museum .

He has been married to his wife Hannelore since 1971 and has a daughter and two sons.
