JP Morgan World Headquarters , also known by the name of its address 270 Park Avenue , is a skyscraper in the US metropolis of New York City .
On the property of the previously demolished “Marguery Hotel” apartment building, which was built in 1917, today's high-rise was completed in 1960 after a construction period of two years. The building has a height of 215 meters. All of the building's 52 floors are used exclusively for office space. The well-known American architecture firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (also SOM for short) designed the office tower, which is located in Midtown Manhattan . Initially, the building was planned and constructed for Union Carbide under the name Union Carbide Building . It later became the property of Manufacturers Hanover Corporation and Chemical Bank . Today the building serves as the headquarters of JPMorgan Chase & Co. Bank, the successor company to Chemical Bank, and was named after them.
Currently (as of August 2019) the building is the 61st tallest in the city . Although it was not subjected to extensive renovation and modernization until 2012, JP Morgan announced in October 2018 that it would demolish the house and replace it with a 150-meter-higher new building based on plans by the British architecture firm Foster + Partners . That would make 270 Park Avenue the tallest skyscraper to be demolished .
