Jack Kirk

Jack Kirk , actually John Asbury Kirkhuff , (born February 19, 1895 in Nickerson , Kansas , † September 13, 1948 in Ketchikan , Alaska ) was an American actor who was used in numerous films as a supporting actor .

Life

Kirk began his film career with the beginning of the sound film era ; he benefited from his singing voice, with which he also dubbed some heroes of B-Westerns during vocal interludes. With several, varying vocal groups like the Range Riders or the Arizona Wranglers , he had numerous appearances. He worked for various film production companies and was initially cast as a cowboy, rancher or bandit, later as a sheriff, lawyer or carriage driver. He shot around 180 productions for Republic Pictures alone; he was particularly often in westerns of the Three Mesquiteers (33 times), with Roy Rogers (31 times), Gene Autry (26 times) and Bill Elliott (23 times) to see. His nickname was "Pappy" Kirk.

In the late 1940s, with the decline of B-film , Kirk left the film business and moved to Alaska . There he worked as a fisherman and died while working. He left behind his wife and eight children.
