Jacob von Roeser

Jacob von Roeser (born June 3, 1799 in Ellingen , † April 25, 1862 in Bartenstein ) was a German doctor , personal physician and traveler .

Life

Jacob von Roeser was born in 1799 in Ellingen in what is now the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district as the eldest son of the Mergentheimer electoral Cologne court advisor and personal physician Maximilian Justin Roeser († August 12, 1836). His mother was Elisabeth née Bona and accompanied her husband on many trips with the electors. His brother Bernhard Röser (1806–1868) was a royal Greek personal physician, Constantin Röser (1809–1870) was a royal Greek government architect, his sister Christine was a Dr. Weber from Königswinter married.

After attending the Lyceum in Mergentheim, he studied medicine at the University of Würzburg at the age of 16 . He continued his studies in Tübingen , where he received his doctorate in 1819. He then went on trips to Paris , London , Berlin and Vienna . There he was busy with studies at the hospitals. When he returned to Mergentheim, he practiced with his father until he was employed as a personal physician by the then Prince Karl August Theodor zu Hohenlohe-Bartenstein in 1823 . In the same year he married. From 1834 he made a major trip to Greece and the Middle East . He stayed for a long time with his younger brother Bernhard, personal physician to King Otto of Greece in Athens . He toured Egypt and Syria and during a stay in Jerusalem devoted himself to the treatment of those suffering from the plague . For this he was awarded medals such as the Knight's Cross of St. New Year's Eve , the Holy Order of Warriors and later the Greek Order of Savior . In 1836 he published a diary of my travels to Greece, Turkey, Egypt and Syria, and in 1837 about some diseases of the Orient . The Hohenlohe Central Archive in Neuenstein is keeping a letter from Pope Gregory XVI. from 1838 to Ludwig Albrecht zu Hohenlohe-Jagstberg about the bestowal of a papal order to Dr. Jakob Roeser. In 1853 von Roeser married for the second time and traveled to France and Spain. Jacob Ritter von Roeser died in 1862 after a long illness and several operations in Bartenstein, a current district of Schrozberg .

family

In 1823 he married his cousin Maria Eva Veith († 1828). Her father was a court chamberlain in Königswinter, her mother was born Bona, his mother's sister. The couple had five children, three of whom died early; their twin daughters Maria and Bernhardina survived.

In 1853 he married Johanna Franziska Märklin, a daughter of the late princely assessor in Bartenstein. The couple had a daughter who died young.
