Jacobus Kloppers

Jacobus Kloppers (* 1937 in Krugersdorp ) is a South African organist , composer and musicologist .

Life

Kloppers earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Potchefstroom and a degree in organ playing from the University of South Africa . In 1961 he studied with Helmut Walcha at the Frankfurt University of Music through the German Academic Exchange Service . He also studied musicology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt, where he received his doctorate in 1966 on the organ works by Johann Sebastian Bach .

From 1966 to 1976 he taught organ and musicology at the University of Bloemfontein . In 1976 he emigrated with his family to Canada , where he teaches as an adjunct professor at the University of Alberta . In addition to his scientific work, he composed over 60 works for organ.
