Jakub Wierzchowski (born April 15, 1977 in Lublin , Poland ) is a former Polish football player .
Club career
Jakub Wierzchowski started his career in his hometown Lublin near Lublinianka Lublin . In 1996 he moved to Górnik Łęczna and in 1998 to Wisła Krakau . Here he made his debut in 1998 in the Ektraklasa . However, he lost the club's internal duel against Artur Sarnat and was sold to Ruch Chorzów . Here he advanced to the goalkeeper. In 2001 he moved to the Bundesliga for Werder Bremen . In two seasons at Werder Bremen, however, he only played three Bundesliga games. In 2003 he returned to Poland and signed a contract with Wisła Płock . Here he played for three seasons and won the Polish Cup with Płock in 2006 . After two short stints at Zagłębie Sosnowiec and Polonia Bytom and an intervening six months without a club, he moved to his former club Górnik Łęczna in the second Polish division in 2008 . Here he was again the goalkeeper. In the 2010/11 season he was demoted to substitute goalkeeper at Górnik Łęczna. At the age of 34, Wierzchowski decided to be available to his club Górnik Łęczna as a goalkeeping coach and standby professional during the 2011 summer break . But a year later he ended his playing career completely.
National team
He played a total of two times for the Polish national football team . He made his debut on November 15, 2000 in a friendly against Iceland (1-0) in Warsaw . Wierzchowski played his second and last international match on February 10, 2002 in Limassol against the Faroe Islands (2-1).
