history

According to the association's records, football was introduced to Jamaica towards the end of the 19th century and the first club was formed in 1893. Jamaica played his first international match on March 9, 1925 against Haiti . Overall, they played three games against each other, all of which Jamaica won (2: 1, 1: 0 & 3: 0). The following year both teams met in Jamaica. In Sabina Park Jamaica won with 6: 0th The Haitians remained without a win until 1932, when they won 4-1 in Port-au-Prince .

Between 1925 and independence in 1962, Jamaica played regularly against Trinidad and Tobago , Haiti, Cuba and against clubs such as Racing Club Haïtien and Violette Athletic Club from Haiti, and in 1952 even a series of games against an All Star team from the Caribbean. The All Star team included players like Michael Kruin from Suriname and the most famous players on the Jamaican side were Lindy Delapenha and Gillie Heron . From Jamaica's point of view, the games ended as follows: 1: 5, 2: 1, 0: 1 & 1: 0. During this time, many clubs were formed that produced many talents in Jamaican football.

In 1965 Jamaica first took part in a World Cup qualification. The Jamaican national team achieved their greatest international success when they qualified for the 1998 World Cup . There they were eliminated after the preliminary round with a win against Japan. Jamaica was unable to build on this respectable success and then failed three times in a row in the qualifying round.
