James Glenn Beall

James Glenn Beall (* 5. June 1894 in Frostburg , Allegany County , Maryland ; †  14. January 1971 ) was an American politician of the Republican Party . He represented the state of Maryland in both houses of Congress .

Beall first attended public schools in Maryland, then later Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania . Between 1918 and 1919 he served in the United States Army . After retiring from service with the rank of sergeant , he worked in the insurance and real estate industries.

In 1923, James Beall took his first public office as a member of the Allegany County Roads Committee. There he resigned in 1930 after being elected to the Maryland Senate; He was a member of this until 1934. He was then a member between 1938 and 1939, and later chairman of the State Road Commission .

From January 3, 1943, Beall served in the United States House of Representatives for the sixth congressional electoral district of Maryland . After being re-elected several times, he remained there until 1953, before moving to the Senate within Congress . There, too, he was re-elected in 1958, before he failed in his third candidacy in 1964 against the Democrat Joseph Tydings .

Beall's political career was over. He returned to Frostburg and was subsequently active in the insurance business again. His son John was also a US Senator for Maryland from 1971 to 1977.
