Jan-Erik Lundqvist

Jan-Erik Lundqvist (born April 14, 1937 in Stockholm ) is a former Swedish tennis player .

Career

In addition to numerous tournaments, Lundqvist played numerous games for the Swedish Davis Cup team . Between 1957 and 1970 he played 35 meetings. He played 63 individual games, of which he won 47. To date, this is the highest number of individual games won in the history of the Swedish Davis Cup team. Lundqvist played a total of 28 games (17 wins) in doubles, 16 of them at Ulf Schmidt's side .

At the ATP tournament in Båstad he was twice in the individual finals. In 1962 he was defeated by Manuel Santana from Spain in five sets, the following year he defeated the Yugoslav Boro Jovanović in three sets. He also reached the finals twice in the doubles competition, each with Ulf Schmidt. In 1960 they won the tournament against the Americans Chuck McKinley and Hugh Stewart in four sets, in 1963 they had to admit defeat McKinley and Dennis Ralston .
