In 1987 he signed a contract with a larger club for the first time: Brann Bergen . With Brann he reached the Norwegian Cup final twice, which was lost both times. After relegation immediately, he stayed in Berlin until 1992 . In the same time he made nine international matches for Norway .
After the guest appearance in Germany he moved to Denmark to Aarhus GF and played two years as a regular player. In 1994 he returned to Sogndal Fotball in his home country, but was unable to assert himself there, as in his last two stations ( Rosenborg Trondheim and Byåsen IL ), whereupon he ended his playing career at the age of 31.
Coaching career

After only a year he left Sweden in the direction of Notodden FK , where he immediately made it to the second division without defeat.
On January 17, 2011 it was announced that Halvorsen would be Hans Backe's assistant coach at Red Bull New York . At the end of 2012, the duo left the club again. In early 2013 he became the head coach of FK Bodø / Glimt . He led his new team to promotion in 2013 . After relegation in 2014 , he was able to place his team in midfield in the following season .
