The autonomous Finnish province of Åland is responsible for the Jan Karlsgarden open-air museum . It is right next to the medieval Kastelholm Castle in Sund . In the museum there are several rural Åland buildings that have been moved to the museum from different parts of the Åland Islands . They come mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries. The buildings in the museum are arranged like a typical Åland farm from the second half of the 19th century: Below the buildings are a house, a summer house, a two-storey storehouse, attic and granary as well as a cattle yard with a horse stable, cattle shed, ox barn and sheep barn. The kiln , the sauna and the forge are a little further away from the courtyard. Furthermore, there are several windmills typical of the Åland Islands, as well as other individual buildings (including a boathouse, fisherman's hut).

The Vita Björn prison museum is right in front of the entrance to the open-air museum.
