Jan Koolman

Jan Koolman (born November 7, 1943 in Lübeck ) is a German biochemist and professor emeritus.

Life

Jan Koolman is a son of the silversmith Rolf Koolman (1900–1954). He studied biochemistry at the University of Tübingen and in 1969 at the University of Marburg with one of Peter Karlson supervised dissertation on the metabolism of ecdysone to Dr. rer. nat. PhD. In 1977 he completed his habilitation in biochemistry in the medical department. Various stays abroad followed in Bristol , Strasbourg , Paris and Barcelona .

In 1984 he became professor for physiological chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Marburg. From 2001 to 2004 he was also Dean of Studies for Medicine. His main research interests are the field of hormone systems and the didactics of biochemistry. His main work, the textbook Pocket Atlas of Biochemistry , was published in its fifth edition in 2019 and has been translated into numerous languages.
