His most famous work is the Belfry of the City Hall of Brussels ; this is considered one of the masterpieces of medieval secular architecture. It was designed by Jacob van Tienen in 1402 . Ruysbroeck's tower was added between 1444 and 1463. Another of his masterpieces is the openwork spire of the St. Geertrui Church in Leuven (completed in 1453), which he built from natural stone without the use of a single fastening nail, and whose filigree stone struts allow the viewer to see through the tower.

His other works include:

  • the fountain in the Liebfrauenhospital in Oudenaarde (1443–1445)
  • part of the St. Pieterkirche in Anderlecht (1479–1485)
  • probably the tower of the cathedral St. Michel et Gudule in Brussels (1470–1485)
