Jana Siegelová

Jana Siegelová (born September 11, 1944 in Tábor ), actually Jana Soucková-Siegelová , is a Czech Near Eastern archaeologist and ancient orientalist and was director of the Náprstek Museum in Prague until 2008 .

Jana Siegelová studied prehistoric archeology and ancient oriental studies at Charles University in Prague with her future husband, Vladimír Souček . After graduating in 1967, she was hired at the Náprstek Museum while working on her dissertation on Appu fairy tales and Ḫedammu myth . She cooperated closely with Heinrich Otten in Marburg , where she had a longer research stay and was able to record various publications.

In 1971 she was appointed curator at the Náprstek Museum, eight years later she became its director. In the following years she dealt intensively with the metallurgy of the Hittites as well as the economic and administrative practice in the Hittite Empire.
