Jared Bernstein

Jared Bernstein (born December 26, 1955 ) is an American economist and since December 2008 Chief Economist and Economic Policy Advisor to US Vice President Joe Biden and head of the Middle Class Task Force .

Bernstein holds a Ph.D. in Social Welfare from Columbia University . In 1992 he became an employee of the Economic Policy Institute . From 1995 to 1996 he served as Deputy Chief Economist in the Department of Labor under Robert B. Reich .

As an economic researcher, Bernstein dealt with such individual aspects of the US economy as inequality , social mobility , low wages , economic policy of the US federal government and the states including international comparisons.

He is a co-author of The State of Working America for eight editions . He has appeared in the New York Times , Washington Post, and The American Prospect, as well as contributions to CNBC broadcaster .

His most recent books are titled All Together Now: Common Sense for a Fair Economy and Crunch: Why Do I Feel So Squeezed? (And Other Unsolved Economic Mysteries) .
