Jean-Claude Basso

Jean-Claude Basso (born August 10, 1949 in Bournel ) is a French entrepreneur and former racing driver .

Career in motorsport

Jean-Claude Basso began his career in 1974 as a mountain racer . His first emergency vehicle was a Formula Libre - monoposto in the from of a 1.6-liter R12 Gordini motor formula Renault was incorporated. After initial successes, Basso replaced the small racing car with a Simca 1000 Rallye 2 , which was soon followed by a BMW 3.0 CSL .

In the 1980s he was a regular starter in the French Touring Car Championship . Always at the start in BMW vehicles , in 1990 he was overall seventh in the championship behind Jean-Pierre Malcher , Michel Ferté , Xavier Lapeyre , Jean-Pierre Jabouille , Marc Sourd and Lucien Guitteny .

In 1994 he bought a race-ready 600LM from Venturi to compete in the BPR Global GT Series . Basso turned to Henri Pescarolo , whom he did not know personally, and offered him a racing partnership. Pescarolo agreed and did a few races alongside Basso. The greatest success of the partnership was the victory in the 1000 km race in Paris in 1994 at the Autodrome de Linas-Montlhéry .

Basso drove circuit races until 1997 and then competed in the Dakar Rally several times .

Entrepreneur

Jean-Claude Basso runs a BMW dealership in La Plaine Saint-Denis , near Paris .
