Jean-Claude Mermoud

Jean-Claude Mermoud (born August 8, 1952 , † September 6, 2011 ; resident in Poliez-le-Grand ) was a Swiss politician ( SVP ).

biography

As the son of a farmer , he decided early on to become a farmer. At the age of 20 he obtained the certificate of proficiency at the agricultural school in Marcelin and a few years later became a master farmer . He took over an area of ​​24 hectares , cultivated it and kept up to 2300 laying hens .

His first small political office was that of the parish clerk in Eclagnens . He later became the mayor elected and held that post from for 16 years. In 1989 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Vaud . At the same time he was president of the SVP Vaud ( French UDC Vaudois ). On March 15, 1998 he was appointed to the State Council. There he first headed the Department for Safety and Environment and was re-elected on March 17, 2002. In 2003 he presided over the State Council. In August 2004 he temporarily replaced his colleague Pierre Chiffelle as head of the then Department of Institutions and External Relations, which he headed until December 1, 2004. In 2007 he was re-elected for the third time and was head of the Department of Economic Affairs until his death in September 2011 .

Mermoud was a member of the SVP's Council of States for the canton of Vaud in the 2011 Swiss parliamentary elections in autumn. Before the elections, he died after cardiovascular problems and an operation in the hospital.

Mermoud was married and had three children. He lived in Eclagnens .
