Augert won his first points in a World Cup race on January 21, 1968 when he finished seventh in the Hahnenkamm Slalom in Kitzbühel . At the 1968 Winter Olympics , he finished 15th in slalom, but was subsequently disqualified for a peat error. He achieved his first podium finish in the World Cup on March 29, 1968, when he finished second in the slalom in Rossland, Canada .
Also in the 1968/69 season Augert was among the world's best. Two more second places were added, on January 6th in the giant slalom from Adelboden and on February 9th in the downhill run from Cortina d'Ampezzo . He was among the top ten three more times. In the 1969/70 season , a sixth place remained his only result in the points and he could not qualify for the 1970 World Cup. On November 27, 1970 Augert suffered a broken leg while training in Courchevel and then ended his sports career. He died in an avalanche on February 15, 1976.
